So many diets, so little time: flexible office catering in Toronto

So, you’ve been tasked with catering lunch for your team at work. In the mix, you have strict vegetarians, colleagues with celiac disease, a few lactose-intolerant folks, and some die-hard carnivores. It might feel like an impossible nut to crack, but Lebanese food checks every box while tasting absolutely delicious.

At Daymi, our packages are designed for busy people placing complex orders. Here’s how we would approach a catering order if we were you!

Flexible by nature

Lebanese cuisine is one of the most inclusive ways to eat. The entire cuisine is built on a foundation of fresh vegetables, legumes, and healthy grains, laying the groundwork for seriously tasty bites that are "accidentally" vegan, gluten-free, or dairy-free.

Our catering menu mirrors that flexibility in terms of how guests can order. We offer three fully customizable formulas for teams of all sizes, so you can easily mix and match your shareable spread based on everyone’s preferences. A simple pairing of falafel and shish taouk already has most dietary needs covered and accounted for!

Three starters and two mains for a smaller meeting? No problem. Four starters and three mains for a larger crowd? We can have it ready in 48 hours regardless, and you can cap your spending below $25 per person.

A plate for every palate

Vegan options

Employees who eat plant-based food often feel like an afterthought. Instead of scrounging random side dishes to cobble a meal together, consider kicking things off with super-creamy hummus and crispy falafel balls (which are served with tahini, a vegan sauce!). Stretch a little further into Lebanese territory with foul, a blend of fava beans and chickpeas seasoned with olive oil, garlic, and lemon. For some crunchy green goodness, opt for a fresh fattoush salad with pomegranate molasses — you can request the pita chips on the side for gluten-sensitive guests.

Gluten-free options

No bread? No problem. When Celiac or gluten sensitivity is a factor, focus on our platters rather than sandwiches. Our shish taouk plate, for example, serves up juicy grilled chicken prepared the authentic way. Ask us about swapping the side of fries or pita for extra salad or rice! The same goes for our grilled kafta plate, complete with our signature hummus and some veggies. For your sides, our white rice and housemade sauces like toum (garlic) and dakkous (tomato and cilantro) are naturally gluten-free.

Dairy-free options

Finally, an office lunch that won’t have your dairy-free friends popping Lactaid pills. We use olive oil instead of butter for the lion’s share of our cooking, so you won’t need to worry about milk products lurking in the background. Two of our most ample main dishes fall neatly into this category: kabsa chicken, a richly aromatic rice-based dish, and kafta & batata, a combo of meat patties with fried potatoes in a rich tomato sauce. Go wild with starters like hummus, falafel, foul, and batata harra, all of which are dairy-free, as are most of our delightful pressed sandwiches.

To avoid for nut allergies

Food allergies are not to be taken lightly. If someone on your team has a nut sensitivity, we recommend steering clear of our kale freekeh salad, which is garnished with slivered almonds. The same goes for our fattet hummus, which has fried almost on top (note: it’s also made with yogurt, so although it’s a “hummus” by name, it’s not vegan or dairy-free). Our rice pudding dessert is also topped with pistachios.

The can’t-miss sauce

Toum, our beloved. We make this crave-worthy garlic sauce in-house, and we recommend it for every single order! It’s vegan and dairy-free but tastes incredibly rich, making it a crowd favourite everyone can enjoy together.
